Falling for Iguassu Falls

Falling for Iguassu Falls

It can rain a lot in May at Iguazu Falls, but hard rain only adds to the breathtaking vistas at these mighty cascades that have some 80,000 gallons per second of water flowing over them. The falls are located on the border of the Brazilian State of Paraná and the Argentine Province of Misiones. They divide the Iguazu River into upper and lower. If you are not amazed by the immensity of these falls, then nothing can amaze you.

A guided tour of the falls is recommended. These guides can arrange to take you over the border to Argentina so you can walk to the center of the falls. Once there, the enormous cataract will almost surround you. Watch out for flocks of swifts that nest behind the curtains of water; they move just like starlings in an undulating murmuration; magnificent.

Even though you are in a sub-tropical rainforest the air temperature can be quite cold around the falls. A must do while visiting is to get completely soaked and go out onto the river in a speedboat. These boats will take you right up to several of the waterfalls at high speed. Expect to get very wet on this adventure.

The falls are not the only attraction in Foz do Iguacu; the small Brazilian town that supports travelers to the area. A dinner and show at one of the many nightclubs is worth your time. The Samba is the dance behind most shows. These shows are like a Vegas showgirl review or the other way around, perhaps. Some, more sophisticated performances, offer music and dance examples from all around South America. You know what they say: when in Rome.

You must visit Iguazu Falls before it's all over.
