Hetch Hetchy

the best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry

Snow-go

Well we’ve been training for months, which was fun, but Mount Whitney is not playing ball with us. Even though we have just had record high temperatures here in California we’ve also had record snow falls this year too. Our planned assent of Whitney is officially canceled as the mountain is covered in 30 foot of snow and ice.

This time last year the mighty massif was completely dry. This is why we chose to enter the permit lottery for this time of the year. However, the world’s weather is our mistress and she must be obeyed.

As we must hike to stay alive, we’ve modified our plans and will overnight in the magnificent Yosemite National Park, up in the high plains of the Hetch Hetchy.

We are hoping the extremely hot temperatures will reduce by next week so our climb up to the high plain of the Sierra Nevada will be bearable. And of course, we hope we do not meet any bears.

Stay tuned for an update.
