Truckee

Snow Hiking

January 2019

High in the Sierra Nevada, north of Lake Tahoe is the sleepy town of Truckee. Not too far from the village center is the amazing Euer Valley. This picturesque valley is triangulated by Red Mountain, Prosser Hill, and Donner Ridge. It is accessible via the Tahoe Donner Cross Country Center. When Julia and I got there it was covered in freshly fallen snow.

Since Julia’s horrific accident at Park City back in 2016 we have both given up sliding on the snow and now taken up snow hiking. We donned our snowshoes, rugged up, and took off up and around the Euer Valley for two days of wonderful snow hiking.

We were advised that there are many coyotes in the area, but all we saw was a rascally rabbit.

The trip was a pleasure, and snow hiking enables us to continue to experience the joy of winter in the Sierra Nevada while minimizing the risk of broken bones.
